Sacramento Dog Training Experts
Dogs can overcome problem behaviors with the right training approach. We’ve helped hundreds of pet owners in Sacramento transform their furry companions into well-behaved family members.
Crate training becomes easier with simple techniques. Drop a rawhide bone inside the crate and close the door. Your dog will spot and smell that tempting treat, naturally wanting to get inside. The moment they enter, shower them with praise and affection.

Think of dog training as mastering your own emotions first. You can’t guide your dog if you lose control of yourself. When your dog acts up, step away instead of showing frustration – we’ve seen this work with over 200 clients who struggled with reactive pets. Stay calm even when they chew your favorite shoes or have accidents indoors. Dogs mirror your energy, so consistent calmness creates better results.
Aggressive dogs need a slower approach. These dogs see themselves as pack leaders. Challenge that position too fast and you’ll face growling, snapping, or worse. Our team worked with a German Shepherd named Rex who bit three people before his owner called us – we spent six weeks gradually establishing leadership through controlled feeding times and structured walks.
Don’t expect miracles in the first week. Puppies act like puppies. That 12-week-old Golden Retriever will chew, jump, and have accidents because that’s normal development. Reward good behavior every single time, and your dog will catch on within 4-6 weeks of consistent practice. Overnight transformations don’t happen in real training.
Training takes months, not days. We tell our clients to expect 3-4 months for basic obedience with young dogs. Older dogs often need 6-8 months because they’re breaking years of bad habits while learning new ones. Last year, we trained an 8-year-old Pitbull mix who hadn’t walked on a leash properly in five years – it took seven months, but he now walks perfectly beside his owner.
Give your dog only dog-specific chew toys. Rope toys, Kong balls, and dental chews work best. Teething puppies need relief, so try freezing a damp washcloth – the cold numbs their sore gums while giving them something safe to gnaw.
Training doesn’t require constant battles or dominance games. We use positive reinforcement with 95% of our clients because it works faster than punishment-based methods. Dogs learn quickly when training stays consistent and patient – our oldest success story involved a 10-year-old Beagle who learned basic commands in just two months.
